Valerie is Professor of Regulatory Studies in the Regulatory Institutions Network at ANU. She has an extensive background in social science and psychology and has held many research positions across her career including Associate Director of the School of Social Science at Australian National University. Valerie has authored publications on child protection regulatory principles, Indigenous child protection, child protection challenges, and has recently been involved in the Capacity Building in Child Protection Project looking at how safety and care for children in a community can be more effective when with a regulatory approach.

Valerie brings an outstanding academic record in child protection, social sciences and psychology to the Reference Group, that will make an invaluable contribution to shaping the Review recommendations.
