Nicola Jeffers (Executive District Director): We've got very strong and generous Aboriginal community members that guide our practice, guide our work, and guide everything that we do.

Chris Sutherland (Aboriginal Caseworker): Hi, I'm Chris, an Aboriginal caseworker working in South Western Sydney.

(Poster is shown that says ‘Aboriginal Cultural Capability Framework’)

A really important part of my role is that culture is ever-present and that we look through a cultural lens when working with Aboriginal families.

(Chris is shown at his office desk, looking at his computer. The webpage on his computer has text with the heading ‘Harnessing Aboriginal culture as a protection and strength).

I love my job so much because I'm able to influence people through sharing culture and life experiences.

(Chris is shown talking to a non-Aboriginal colleague)

And most of all, I really love how passionate the people are and committed to improving better outcomes for Aboriginal people and families.

(Camera zooms in on images of three Aboriginal women).

I want every Aboriginal kid to be strong in culture and to be proud and deadly.

(Young Aboriginal boy dances and smilse to camera, on Country, wearing ochre on his body).

(Music fades and animated NSW government logo appears)

Information alert

Please note that at DCJ we commonly use the word "Aboriginal", recognising that Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants of NSW, the part of Australia we are responsible for. We acknowledge and respect that Torres Strait Islander people are among the First Nations of Australia and that both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are an important part of our staff and the communities we work with.
