Hi, I'm Jess and I work for DCJ as a Child Protection Caseworker. Getting a job in the country is a great way to get your foot in the door. You're able to work in a broader community, in a broader area than what you would in the city. It's a great way to build your skill set and put tools in your toolbox. This area has got great schools, it's got great community, It's got absolutely everything you could want. There's a totally different lifestyle. Your children grow up in the outdoors. Going to the country, I was able to raise my own family in a small community where everyone knows each other. It's visually lovely, but it's also affordable. It's your little oasis, away from everyone. Make a difference. Become a Caseworker.

I just finished up some online university study when I made the talent pool. They asked me where abouts I would like to go. I essentially went on Google Maps and looked at which towns had a river and a gym and Bourke had those and Broken Hill didn't. So this is how I got to Bourke Community Corrections, I've been with Corrective Services NSW for about three and a half years now. I came out at the start of 2020, loved it and stayed. My time in Bourke has been fantastic. The thing I love about Bourke is it's such a tIght-knit community, it's super supportive out here. So out here I haven't got any of my family, so out here your friends are family, everyone helps everyone out. The other great thing I love is it's so easy to get well connected with community especially Aboriginal community, and I've luckily been able to do that through football. Which has been a great opportunity out here. Bourke is very unique, where you see your clients outside of work as much as you see them in work, at the shops, at the pub, sporting. Sort of keeping it transparent. Role modeling behaviours you would like to see is super crucial. Working out here, is a very unique opportunity. My advice for anyone who's a bit hesitant about coming out for the adventure and moving out to a rural location and working ,is you just got to do it. Myself a city boy from Cronulla, I packed up the waves for the brown river and it was the best decision of my life.
