An Australian-first mobile app launched today will transform child protection work in NSW, enabling frontline caseworkers to spend more time supporting vulnerable children and less time behind their desk.
Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward said ChildStory Mobile is being rolled out across the state, putting essential information and technology at caseworker’s fingertips.
“This Australian-first app will provide caseworkers with real-time access to vital information, allowing faster responses and better outcomes for vulnerable kids,” Mr Ward said.
“ChildStory Mobile will save time, reduce paperwork and improve services and support provided to vulnerable children and families across NSW.”
ChildStory Mobile is a modified version of ChildStory, the desktop system used by the Department of Communities and Justice for child protection and out-of-home care. The new app allows caseworkers to:
- Complete home visit records and upload files;
- Access client information;
- Complete safety assessments;
- Use the innovative talk-to-text function; and
- Create digital safety plans that can be signed and shared with families instantly.
Child protection caseworkers were involved in the design and development of the app, and participated in a rigorous testing program.
Anyone who suspects child abuse or neglect can report it to the Child Protection Helpline, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Reports are confidential and can be made by calling 132 111. Mandatory reporters are encouraged to report online.
