NGO Flood Support Program

The NSW Government allocated $13.3 million to support Northern NSW communities affected by the floods in February and March 2022. The NGO Flood Support Program provided support in the seven highly impacted Northern Rivers Local Government Areas: Richmond Valley, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Tweed, Ballina and Byron.

Documentary and evaluation

Northern NSW District engaged local filmmakers Karenza Ebeyer and Mitch King to make “Rising Up: The Inspiring Stories of Community Led Recovery”, a documentary on this unique grant program featuring 11 of the 81 organisations that received funding and the local Flood Support Officers engaged in the District to provide them with support through the life of the program

The Evaluation of the NGO Flood Support Program has just completed and will available soon. Lessons learned have been applied to other disaster grants including the NGO Flood Recovery Program (Central and Western NSW).

An example of the unique nature of this program is the Service Directory[to be uploaded] compiled by the Local Flood Support Officers that included all the grant-funded organisations, supporting increased collaboration and cooperation.

Open Grants

Applications now closed.

$7.6 million was available in the NGO Flood Support Open Grant Program for community and volunteer-based NGOs operating in the seven Northern Rivers LGAs to continue providing critical services to individuals and families.

Direct Allocation Grants

Available by invitation only.

$4.5 million was allocated to providers funded by the Department of Communities and Justice to provide services in the seven Northern Rivers LGAs for the continuing provision of critical service delivery to individuals and families.

Providers eligible for these grants were contacted directly. Applications closed at 5pm on 21 July 2022.
