Permanency Support Program videos

About the Permanency Support Program

Watch our short four minute video explaining changes under the Permanency Support Program (PSP).

About the PSP

Permanency Case Management Policy

We have produced a full-length interview-style video and six shorter videos which cover specific policy components. The videos aim to build awareness and understanding of permanency planning in casework. They also clarify the roles and responsibilities of DCJ and PSP providers in the new service system.

Guardianship

This short video provides information to prospective guardians. It explains how guardians make all parenting decisions, receive an allowance and access all services in the community, just like other NSW parents.

Open Adoption

This short video explains how open adoption embraces issues of identity, openness and the value of a child's cultural and racial heritage. It includes the involvement of birth parents in the adoption and supports sharing of information, contact and building relationships, which are based on the child's best interests.

Safety in Care

DCJ has been working hard to improve the way we assess concern reports received of children under the parental responsibility of the Minister. These efforts include improving how DCJ partners with PSP providers when responding to a child protection report through Alternate Assessment. These changes aim to strengthen partnership at key decision-making points, recognise the unique vulnerabilities of children in OOHC, attend more individually to each child’s experience of cumulative harm, and improve safety planning.

Tools for keeping children and families together safely

We have produced three short videos on family finding, parent responsibility contracts and family group conferencing. These programs are tools to support DCJ and PSP casework practitioners to keep children safely at home, and connected to their family, kin and community.

Two extra videos explaining the changes under PSP and the trial of the QAF can be found below.

Family finding

This short video explains how the Family Finding model can be used by DCJ and PSP practitioners to connect children with family and other people, who will love and support them now and in the future. All children deserve the opportunity to build these important lifelong connections

Family group conferencing

This short video explains how family group conferencing (FGC) can be used by child protection practitioners to bring family members together to make important decisions and a joint plan to support a child or young person at risk of entering care and their parents.

Parent responsibility contacts

This short video explains how parent responsibility contracts can be used by child protection practitioners to support parents to sustain change so they can keep their children safe at home.

Permanency for children and young people in long term care

Professor Michael Tarren-Sweeny discusses the importance of permanence and felt security for children and young people in long term care. Michael highlights how pre-care and in-care experiences affect development and mental health. He discusses how the care system can support more positive outcomes for children through establishing placement security, early and effectively.

About the Quality Assurance Framework

In 2018, DCJ trialled the Quality Assurance Framework with three PSP  providers (Burrun Dalai Aboriginal Corporation Incorporated, Key Assets, MacKillop Family Services) and one DCJ district (Mid North Coast District).

Watch this (2017) short video and find out how the trial helped Key Assets Fostering, one of our service provider partners.
