Youth Week events kick off across NSW

20 April 2023

Almost $1 million worth of activities and events created by young people for young people are set to begin across the state today.

Youth Week involves a wide range of activities such as concerts, discussion forums, workshops, markets, arts and crafts exhibitions, movie nights, barbecues and much more.

Close to $500,000 in government funding provided to local councils, has been matched dollar for dollar, to deliver exciting events in partnership with the Advocate for Children and Young People.

“The great thing about Youth Week is these events are led and driven by young people themselves,” Ms Zoë Robinson, Advocate for Children and Young People said.

“We know that young people want to connect with their peers and be active participants of their communities and Youth Week is a great way to foster this connection.”

“I encourage all young people to look up what’s happening in their suburb and get involved.”

Each year, tens of thousands of young people across NSW get involved in hundreds of Youth Week activities. In 2022, an estimated 63,000 young people participated in Youth Week activities across NSW, with more than 730 events of varying sizes and activities held.

Funding is allocated to local councils based on the number of young people living in their area.

Youth Week will run from 20 to 30 April 2023. To learn more, visit the Youth Week website.
