Have your say on national child protection framework

People can now contribute to the development of a five-year plan that will help deliver the next National Framework for Protecting Children by ‘having their say’ online.

Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Alister Henskens said it is important that people in NSW share their views to inform this plan which will be the first of its kind and aims to support the most vulnerable children and families.

“This plan will provide a blueprint for a nationally-consistent approach to delivering real and improved outcomes for vulnerable children and families,” Mr Henskens said.

“We want as many people as possible in NSW to have an input into developing this plan. I call on young people, families, foster and kinship carers, government and non-government organisations and sector stakeholders to please take part in its development.”

The plan will focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children and young people in out-of-home care, children and families with complex needs and children living with a disability.

People can get involved in the online consultation by providing feedback through the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services Engage website.

National Children’s Commissioner Anne Hollonds will also lead targeted consultations with children, young people and families.

SNAICC – National Voice for our Children is facilitating a co-design process with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to ensure their unique experiences are captured in the development of the successor plan.

The public consultation closes on 26 July. To have your say visit engage.dss.gov.au.
