Free diary gives seniors 2020 knowledge

NSW seniors are encouraged to pick up a copy of the free 2020 Legal Topics for Older Persons Diary to help them understand their legal rights and navigate the justice system.

Attorney General Mark Speakman and Acting Minister for Seniors Geoff Lee said the diary ensures seniors stay up-to-date on legal issues such as scams, insurance claims and elder abuse.

“While anyone can be the victim of a scam, we know dodgy operators tend to target older people, which is why they need to know what to look for so they’re not taken for a ride,” Mr Speakman said.

“The diary contains vital information on a range of scams including investment, dating and romance scams that use a variety of methods to con their victims, including phishing emails and fake phone calls.”

Dr Lee said 80,000 copies of the diary have been printed and will be available to seniors across NSW from today.

“We want all seniors to feel safe and to know where to turn to for support when they need it,” Dr Lee said.

“The diary covers the issue of elder abuse and educates victims and families on how to identify and report it so any physical, financial or emotional abuse is dealt with immediately.

“A range of helpful hints, useful contacts and information on Government services is also included in this year’s diary.”

The 2020 Legal Topics for Older Persons Diary will be available at Legal Aid offices, MPs local offices, libraries and community organisations. To order the diary online please visit Order a publication.
