More social housing for the Inner West

20 February 2023

A collaboration between the NSW Government and St George Community Housing (SGCH) means more people will have a roof over their head in the Inner West of Sydney.

Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the $5.5 million dollar investment will deliver 10 refurbished units in Petersham to help address the social housing demand in the area.

“We’re committed to providing high quality social and affordable housing because it changes lives,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

“The entire block has been refurbished throughout, with all the windows replaced, and each unit benefitting from a new bathroom and kitchen.”

“There are a mix of tenants from a variety of ages and backgrounds, some victims of family and domestic violence, others at risk of homelessness, and those on the priority housing list.”

The cost of the project was shared equally between the NSW Government and SGCH through the landmark Together Home Transition Program.

“SGCH is thrilled to provide 10 social housing homes that are well located in the inner-west, with great amenity to the best opportunities our city has to offer,” Group CEO Scott Langford said.

“Working in partnership with the NSW Government and SR Construction, these units have been transformed, delivering sustainable, safe and affordable homes.”

The Together Home Transition Program provides capital grants to community housing providers to build or buy new social housing, creating long-term homes for vulnerable clients.

The program is currently funding 20 projects valued at over $130 million and will deliver more than 250 new social housing dwellings.
