Recognising the rights of every child this Children's Week

22 October 2022

The NSW Government is celebrating all children across our state and their right to a happy, healthy and prosperous life.

Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said Children’s Week is an opportunity to show young people they are valued and appreciated.

“All children have the right to feel loved and cared for. This week we should take the time to show each and every child how cherished they are and celebrate their achievements,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

“We need to ensure we provide children with everything they need to thrive. That’s why the NSW Government supports Targeted Earlier Intervention services, because we know children do best when they and their parents are supported early.

“Currently, the number of children and young people in OOHC in NSW is the lowest it has been in a decade.”

“Children and young people make a valuable contribution to our communities and it’s important that we all recognise and foster that.”

The NSW Government continues to work together with NGOs to provide wrap-around support for families with vulnerable children, including through Pregnancy Family Conferencing, Aboriginal Child and Family Centres, Targeted Earlier Intervention, the Rent Choice program (including Start Safely), and specialist aftercare services.

The national theme for 2022 is ‘All children have the right to a standard of living that supports their wellbeing and healthy development’.

Children’s Week runs from 22 to 30 October. For more information, visit https://www.nswchildrensweek.org.au.
