New magistrate appointed to the Local Court

24 Jan 2022

A new magistrate has been appointed to the Local Court of NSW, continuing the NSW Government’s $56.1 million investment to strengthen the state’s busiest court to deliver more efficient justice across the state.

Solicitor Trevor Khan will be sworn in as a magistrate on 3 February 2022 following a merit selection process.

Attorney General Mark Speakman said Mr Khan, who has now retired as a member of the NSW Legislative Council, has decades of experience working for his community and brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the bench.

“Mr Khan was in private practice specialising in court advocacy in the Local, District and Family Courts for 20 years. He also brings unique experience to the role from his service in the NSW Legislative Council,” Mr Speakman said.

“The addition of Mr Khan brings the total number of judicial officers on the Local Court bench to a record 145. Further appointments of extra magistrates to be made in the near future will boost the bench to 149.”

The announcement follows five appointments to the Local Court in December.
