More affordable homes on horizon for the Central West

More social and affordable housing is on the way for the Central West with the foundations laid for new dwellings in Orange as part of the NSW Government’s $1.1 billion Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF).

Minister for Families and Communities Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the new homes will provide a welcome housing and economic boost for the region.

“This development will make a huge difference to the lives of many in the community who need a safe and stable place to call home,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

“Delivering social and affordable housing in our regions is relieving pressure on supply while creating dozens of jobs for local tradies and professionals.”

The block of six new dwellings is being delivered in partnership with local community housing provider Housing Plus and will consist of three one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments. It also includes outdoor recreations areas and resident parking.

Housing Plus CEO David Fisher said this development is one of several the organisation has in the pipeline across Western NSW and the Central West.

“We’re committed to providing high quality social and affordable housing for regional NSW and this project builds on the many others  we’re delivering in partnership with government,” Mr Fisher said.

The apartments are energy and water efficient, built to a 7-star NatTHERs rating, reducing energy and water costs for tenants. The complex is close to the Orange CBD, transport, healthcare and shops. It is expected to be completed by end of June 2023.
