Shining a light 2013

The very first in this series of annual reports, ‘Shining a light on good practice in NSW 2013 (PDF, 8.8 MB)’ features 20 stories of great work with children and families.

We began writing this report to inspire, celebrate and encourage excellence in our child protection practice. Too often the work is understood as only adversarial – responding to reports through investigation and removing children from families.

Too often it is perceived as fraught with difficult relationships where families, the sector and the statutory workforce are pitted against each other with different agendas.

The 20 stories featured in this report go along way to debunk those views. In the years since, the report has grown to become a key place for upholding the work of child protection practitioners in NSW and showing the strength of children, young people and families.
