Acknowledgments

The Department of Communities and Justice would like to thank the organisers of this conference, the Multicultural Policy and Engagement team, who lead on justice policy and community engagement in the Department of Communities and Justice. The team consults and engages across NSW with multicultural communities, Leaders and NGO's to build the communities understanding of their rights, obligations and DCJ services. The range of services we provide include:

  • practice resources and advice topics developed for caseworkers to use when working with refugee children and young people
  • information sessions on child protection and domestic violence laws
  • seminars for religious leaders on domestic and family violence, many of whom provide guidance and support to newly arrived refugees.

We acknowledge Aboriginal people as the First Nations Peoples of NSW and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and future.

Informed by lessons of the past, Department of Communities and Justice is improving how we work with Aboriginal people and communities. We listen and learn from the knowledge, strength and resilience of Stolen Generations Survivors, Aboriginal Elders and Aboriginal communities.

You can access our apology to the Stolen Generations.
