How to volunteer

Evacuation centre support

Cross Cluster Operations and Business Support, through the Allocations Cluster Coordination team, maintains a list of central office staff willing and able to support Districts that are running evacuation centres and in other related roles.

If you are able to volunteer at an evacuation centre, please notify your manager and email Allocations Cluster Coordination as soon as possible. Please make sure to include the following information in your email:

  • tell us if you have worked in an evacuation centre before (this is not essential)
  • confirm if you have had disaster welfare training (This is not essential to register your interest, but you will need to undertake training if you have not yet had it. Former FACS staff will need to complete an online course through Ignite which takes around 1 hour. Former Justice staff will need to email Allocations Cluster Coordination for a PDF form.)
  • your contact number
  • when and how long you are available to be deployed.

You can find the Allocations Cluster Coordination email address in the news item about volunteering on the former FACS and Justice intranets. (If you are unable to access the intranet, please contact your manager to forward the email address.)

Please note, only staff on temporary or permanent contracts (paid by the Department of Communities and Justice) are eligible to be deployed.

You will be contacted by Allocations Cluster Coordination if you are allocated to be deployed. Periodic contact will also occur to ensure up-to-date contact and relevant information is held to inform future deployments.
